ALMA - The Panthers baseball team took two from visiting Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Tuesday's terrible weather conditions by scores of 6-1 and 5-4 to improve to 6-0 on the season. In game one the Panthers and the visiting Cardinals struggled through a scoreless deadlock through four innings behind the strong pitching of freshman Konner Vedrode. Vedrode went five frames, striking out eight and earning the win to improve to 2-0 on the season. In the top of the fifth, MLS scored one, to take a 1-0 lead, but in the bottom of the frame Alma answered with six runs of their own to earn a 6-1 victory. Sophomore Justin Doyle paced the Panthers offense going three for three with an RBI.
In game two Alma took a 5-2 lead before the Cardinals scraped across two in the top of the fourth to cut their deficit to 5-4. Junior Zach Hanson (2-0) got the win in relief, throwing three hitless innings striking out four. Hanson singled, doubled, and drove in a pair of runs while sophomore Trenton Fish singled and scored a run. Alma stayed undefeated in their nonconference season and will take on defending TVC Central Champion Midland Bullock Creek at home on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. start.
