ALMA - The AHS baseball team took two from the visiting Blue Devils on Saturday 6-5 and 9-3. The Panthers jumped on the visitors early scoring seniors Tyler Minnick and Matt Young in the first. Alma stretched their lead to 4-0 with a pair of RBI singles by junior Zach Hanson and sophomore Justin Doyle and four innings of shutout work on the mound by Young. The Soo answered with one in the fifth and four in the top of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the sixth Doyle andfreshman Konner Vedrode got on and were brought in by a two-RBI squeeze bunt by senior Toph Roethlisberger for a final of 6-5. Vedrode picked up the win in relief allowing just one earned run.
In the nightcap the Panthers went back and forth through the first three innings before the bats came alive in the fourth. Alma poured on nine runs in the game. Minnick, Roethlisberger and Doyle along with sophomore Trenton Fish and freshman Tristan Villalobos all doubled in runs in game two. Vedrode added three hits in the second game. Hanson got the win on the mound going four innings, striking out four and walking two.
Monday's double-header against St. Johns has been postponed, and the Panthers will next play Wednesday when they host St. Louis.
