Jake Blake and Maddy Seeley have nearly a five and a half year difference in age but both have shared a common bond in 2014-15. They both have dominated GLIAC basketball. The 2013-14 GLIAC rebounding champion, Blake, has had a year and a half of success playing for Lake Superior State, and has started all 28 games this season for the Lakers. He has been a strong piece of the Lakers' run to a GLIAC championship this season. Blake has ranked second on the team in blocks and rebounds, while being third on the team in minutes and field goal percentage. On Thursday night at Northwood, Blake filled the stat sheet, scoring eight points on three of four shooting, to go along with 11 rebounds, a pair of steals, and a monstrous block in just 23 minutes of playing time (because of foul trouble). The scariest thing is that Blake still has another year with the Lakers in 2015-16. Maddy Seeley has had to work hard as a freshman at Northwood this year, earning her way into not just the rotation, but into the starting lineup. Seeley has started nine games for the Timberwolves, and is averaging over 21 minutes a game - fourth most on the team. Seeley has also put herself in the conversation for GLIAC newcomer of the year, as she is averaging 10.8 points per game, and is shooting 44.5% from the three point line. On Thursday night Seeley led all scorers in the game with 18 points, as the Timberwolves defeated Lake State in overtime and locked up the #6 seed in the 16-team GLIAC. Seeley has set herself up for success as she has three more years left at Northwood. |
