The Alma softball team took two from Freeland on Tuesday, as they won by scores of 4-2 and 15-8 (in 8 innings). In game one freshman Amanda Efaw would get the win as she went seven innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out six. The Panthers would score first in the bottom of the second, and then add two more in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, however, Freeland answered back with two runs to cut the lead to 3-2. Alma would then add one more in the bottom of five and the score would hold at 4-2. Senior Justina Moreno and junior Taylor Kinnunen led the way at the plate in game one. Both had a pair of hits, and Moreno added an RBI. In game two the Panthers found themselves down 5-0 after two. In the third, the Alma bats came alive to level the score a 5-5. Alma would then pour on three more in the fourth to take a 8-5 lead. In the bottom of the fourth Freeland would tie the game once again, at eight a piece. The teams would go through the seventh tied and need extras. The Panthers would only need one extra frame. Alma put up seven runs in the top of the eighth to take a 15-8 lead. Sophomore Emmy Vanblaricum would get the win in relief, going 6.1 innings and fanning three. Junior Emma Ceja paced the Panthers, going 4-5 at the plate. Senior Kendall Vedrode added three hits, two RBI, and scored three times as well. Alma will continue their campaign on Friday when they travel to Swan Valley.
