Baseball
The Panther baseball team took two from Chesaning on Friday, 11-1 in five innings and 6-3. In game one, sophomore Konner Vedrode got the win. In game two, senior Zach Hanson got the nod on the mound, and improved to 9-0 on the season. The Panthers are now 13-11 on the season, and wrap up TVC Central action at 7-7. Alma will be back in action on Monday, when they host the Flying G's of Gladwin for a 4:00 p.m. start.
Golf
The Alma golf team took second on Friday as they traveled to the Fields, in Ithaca, for the Ithaca Invitational. The team shot a 348 on the day. Junior Cody Yates led the way with a 76 for the Panthers, which was good for second. Senior Chance Allen took 11th, with an 89 on the day, while senior Logan Pierce took 13th with a 91. Senior Aaron Messer rounded out the scoring, finishing 18th with a 95.
Track
The Panther track and field team competed at the MHSAA Regional competition on Friday at Chippewa Hills. Senior Chase Austin was the lone state qualifier, as he took second in the 110 meter hurdles. He also took third in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing just two hundredths of a second shy of qualifying for the State meet as well. The Panthers will have their final TVC meet on Wednesday at Hemlock, before having qualifiers compete in the Morning Sun Meet of Champions on May 26th, followed by Austin traveling to the State meet on May 30th.
Softball
The Panther softball team took two from Chesaning on Friday, winning 10-1 and 7-3. In game one, the Panthers were up 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth before a five run inning opened the game up. Sophomore Evelyn Vandemark led the way with three hits in game one, while senior Kendall Vedrode and junior Taylor Kinnunen each added two hits. In game two, the Panthers trailed 3-2 after two, but came back with five unanswered runs over the next three innings to take a 7-3 victory. Senior Justina Moreno and freshman Olivia Apple each had two hits to lead the way for the team. Alma is now 18-14 on the season, and 7-7 in the TVC Central. The team will play again on Monday when they host Montabella.
