ALMA - The Alma girls soccer team fell to Hemlock 5-4 on Wednesday evening. The Panthers struck first as freshman Sydney Hanson found fellow freshman Tia Everdeen who beat the keeper to make the score 1-0 in the third minute. Hemlock would answer around the 15th minute to level the score at one. The Huskies would then add another before the half, to make the score 2-1 in favor of the guests. Hemlock would then score twice quickly in the second half, before adding a fifth unanswered goal to make the score 5-1. The comeback would be on. Sophomore Christiana Stankewitz would find Everdeen to cut the Hemlock lead to 5-2. Then in the 72nd minute, Hanson would force a Hemlock turnover, split a pair of defenders, and then beat another inside 18 before lacing the ball into side netting. Four minutes later it would be Hanson again. Freshman Mara Benitez would hit Hanson on a throw, she turned around a defender and then beat the keeper upstairs to make the score 5-4 with four minutes to play. The Huskies would then stall out the remainder of the clock to end the game at 5-4. Alma is now 5-9-4 on the season, and will finish fourth in the TVC West with a 2-5-1 record. The Panthers will be back in action Monday when they host Mt. Morris.
