STANTON - The Alma boys basketball team took down Lakeview on Wednesday by a score of 66-46. The Panthers (17-4) and Wildcats (16-5) came into the game, that many saw as a toss-up, with identical records. The game started as a back and forth affair between the teams through the early parts of the first quarter. Late in the quarter, the Panthers made a run to extend their lead to 22-9 after five straight points by senior Slade Martin. Lakeview would answer back to outscore the Panthers 20-9 in the rest of the half, to cut Alma's lead to two, at 31-29 at halftime. The Panther defense would be the story of the second half. Alma allowed just 17 points in the second half. Lakeview's top two leading scorers combined for just two points in the second half. Martin led the Panthers with a career-high 16 points. Sophomore Konner Vedrode added 15 points and played great defense. Alma will take on Central Montcalm on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
